WTC Final: When Rohit Sharma will step forward for the toss at The Oval on Wednesday, June 7, he will become 5th captain to lead Team India in an ICC event summit clash. It’s worth mentioning that the legendary MS Dhoni holds the record for leading the team in the most ICC finals, securing victory in three out of four finals under his captaincy.

Kapil Dev became the inaugural Indian captain to guide Team India to an ICC final, triumphing in the prestigious ODI World Cup against the West Indies in 1983. The charismatic Virat Kohli, a flamboyant right-handed batsman, shouldered the leadership mantle in two significant instances: the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final and the ICC World Test Championship final (2019-21 cycle).

In the highly anticipated WTC final (2021-23 cycle) against Australia, Rohit Sharma will take on the role of captain, becoming the fifth Indian to lead the national team in the final of an ICC event. On Wednesday, June 7, Rohit Sharma’s Team India is poised to face Australia in the highly-anticipated ICC WTC final at The Oval in London. With a decade-long trophy drought in ICC events, Team India aims to break the spell, having last claimed the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2013.
