WSF Squash World Cup: India Secures Semifinal Spot with Victory over South Africa

India cruised into the semifinals of the SDAT WSF Squash World Cup with a dominant 4-0 victory over South Africa on Wednesday. Brilliant performances from Tanvi Khanna, Saurav Ghosal, Joshna Chinapa, and Abhay Singh secured a comfortable win.

India is set to compete against Japan in a fierce battle for the top position in Pool B. With a passionate home crowd cheering them at Chennai’s Express Avenue Mall, the Indian team produced their top form. They secured maximum points against South Africa, keeping themselves at the top of Pool B.

Tanvi Khanna displayed an impressive performance in the opening match, overpowering Hayley Ward. With excellent composure, Khanna comfortably claimed the first two games with scores of 7-4 and 7-2. Dewald van Niekirk presented a formidable challenge for India’s top-ranked player, Saurav Ghosal, in the second match. After winning the match, Ghosal stated,

  • Tanvi Khanna defeated Hayley Ward 7-4, 7-2, 3-7, 7-2,
  • Saurav Ghosal beat Dewald van Niekerk 7-6, 7-4, 7-1;
  • Joshna Chinappa beat Lizelle Muller 7-4, 7-3, 3-7, 7-1;
  • Abhay Singh beat Jean-Pierre Brits 7-4, 3-7, 7-6, 7-5).
