Olympic silver medalist, Ravi Dahiya’s campaign ends after losing in the second round in the 57kg freestyle category at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade on Friday.
Ravi lost to Uzbekistan’s Gilomjon Abdullaev by 10-0 via technical superiority. Dahiya will not compete in the rematch for bronze after Abdullaev lost to Albanian wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov.
In the quarterfinals (74 kg category), Sagar Jaglan lost to world no. 1 Kyle Dake by 5-0.
On the other hand, Naveen entered the bronze medal match after defeating World No. 4 Syrbaz Talgat of Uzbekistan by 11-3 in the opening round of the 70kg repechage.
Naveen’s victory put him straight into the bronze medal match as his next-round opponent Ilyas Bekbulatov from Uzbekistan was not able to compete due to injury. But eventually, he also lost to Kyrgyzstan’s Ernazar Akmataliev in the bronze medal match.
Now, India will hope for a medal from multiple World Championship medalist Bajrang Punia as Bajrang Punia (65 kg), Pankaj (61 kg), and Viky (97 kg) will also be seen competing in this mega event.
