World Wrestling Championships: Antim Panghal clinches bronze & secures a spot for Paris Olympics

In her inaugural appearance at the senior World Championships, Antim Panghal, the Indian wrestler, secured a bronze medal and a spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics. She achieved this by securing a commanding victory in the 53 kg category match against Sweden’s European champion, Jonna Malmgren, on Thursday.

The two-time U20 world champion showcased her exceptional skills when she achieved a commanding 16-6 victory by technical superiority (TSU), earning her first-ever senior World Championships medal. On her path to securing the bronze medal, Antim Panghal triumphed over the reigning world champion, Olivia Dominique Parrish of the United States, in the preliminary round, followed by her TSU triumph against Roksana Marta Zasina of Poland.

Competing as a neutral athlete due to the suspension of the World Wrestling Federation (WFI), the 19-year-old athlete from Haryana went on to defeat Natalia Malysheva of Russia in the quarterfinals. However, she experienced a heart-wrenching loss in the semifinals to Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist, on Wednesday.
