World University Games: Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar Brings India A Hattrick Of Gold

At the World University Games on Monday, shooters and archers contributed to India’s best-ever medal collection with 17 podium places. Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar stole the spotlight with a hat-trick of gold medals.

The Indian University athletes won four gold medals (a pair in shooting and two in archery), one silver (shooting), and one bronze (archery) on the fourth day of the competition.

India finished fourth in the medal count after China (17-5-4), Korea (10-10-4), and Japan (10-6-7) with nine golds, three silvers, and five bronzes.

Aishwary won three gold medals, giving the shooters a nine-medal haul (6-2-1) and first place in the team competition.

Former world junior winners Aishwary, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Arjun Babuta earned the 10m air rifle men’s team event, beating the hosts China with a world record performance.

The group shot 1894.7 points to win the competition, breaking China’s existing world record established in 2018 by 7.3 points.

China won silver with a score of 1881.9, while Kazakhstan won bronze (1878.2).

Aishwary then claimed another gold medal (252.6) in a solo event, defeating colleague Divyansh Singh Panwar (251.0). Song Wuhan, a local favorite, took bronze with a score of 229.
