India’s journey in the World Table Tennis (TT) Championships concluded on Wednesday as Manika Batra and Archana Kamath suffered a defeat in the women’s doubles event. The Indian duo faced a formidable challenge from Japan’s Hina Hayata and Mima Ito, succumbing to an 8-11, 6-11, 7-11 loss in the pre-quarterfinals.
Earlier in the day, Manika Batra faced Adriana Diaz from Puerto Rico in the women’s singles third round. Despite a valiant effort, Manika, ranked 39th, fell to Diaz, ranked 13th, in a thrilling match that went to seven sets.
In the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals, Sharath Kamal and G. Sathiyan faced tough competition from England’s Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford, ultimately losing in four games.
The disappointment continued for India as the mixed doubles pair of Manika and Sathiyan bowed out in the pre-quarterfinals against the Swedish duo of Truls Moregardh and Christina Kallberg, with a close 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 10-12 defeat.
