India’s Ankita Shrivastava has made the country proud by bagging three medals at the World Transplant Games 2023 held in Perth, Australia. The World Transplant Games is a prestigious international sporting event that celebrates the gift of life through organ transplantation. It is the prestigious international sporting event held by the Olympics Association and is open to those who have received heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, stem cells, and bone marrow transplants.
The 29-year-old Indian athlete showed impressive performance in this tournament and secured a gold medal in the Long Jump event with a jump of 3.06 meters, and two silver medals in the 3,000-meter Racewalk for women and the Shot-Put event, with a best throw of 28.31 meters.
The World Transplant Games is not just about winning medals but is also an opportunity for transplant athletes to showcase their athletic abilities, raise awareness about organ donation, and inspire others to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
The World Transplant Games 2023 brought together 3,000 transplant athletes along with their families and supporters who celebrated the ultimate gift of life via organ donation.
Ankita decided to donate 74 percent of her liver to save her mother’s life as she was suffering from liver cirrhosis. Unfortunately, Ankita’s mother died after multiple organ failure just a few months after the transplant.
