Deepak put on a dominating performance against China’s Jiamao Zhang, winning the bout by a unanimous decision. The Indian boxer controlled the fight from the outset with his swift movement and accurate punches, and he was too quick for his opponent throughout the match. Deepak will now face Diushebaev Nurzhigit of Kyrgyzstan in his next bout and will be looking to secure a medal for India.
However, India’s Akash Sangwan and Sachin Siwach both suffered pre-quarterfinal defeats in their respective weight categories. Akash went down with a disappointing score of 0-5 against Kazakhstan’s Dulat Bekbauov, while Sachin lost to top seed Makhmud Sabyrkhan of Kazakhstan. Despite a bright start in the first round, Sachin was unable to hold on in the final round as Sabyrkhan showed his experience to win the bout.
Meanwhile, Nishant Dev registered a stellar win by RSC in the first round against Nidal Foqahaa of Palestine. Nishant Dev will now face Jorge Cuellar of Cuba in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. India’s third quarter-finalist, Hussamuddin, will go up against J. Diaz Ibanez of Bulgaria.
