World Champion Nikhat Zareen and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain advanced into the finals of the Women’s National Boxing Championships on Sunday.
Defending Champions RSPB and 8 of their boxers, led by Manju Rani (2019 World Championships silver medalist) and Jyoti Gulia (2017 World Youth Champion) made it into the finals as well.
In a one-sided bout, Manju Rani showed her dominance against Madhya Pradesh’s Anjali Sharma. Manju won the bout convincingly by 5-0 and will take on S Kalaivani in the final on Monday.
Jyoti Gulia made a comeback in the last 2 rounds. She landed regular punches to acquire a 4-1 verdict in her favor.
Representing Telangana, Nikhat Zareen (50 kg) emerged victorious 5-0 against AIP’s Shvinder Kaur. On the other hand, Assam’s Lovlina (75 kg) convincingly won against Madhya Pradesh’s Jigyasa Rajput and advance to the finals. Lovlina, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist will face World Youth Champion Arundhati Choudhary of SSCB in the gold medal match.
Manisha (2021 World Championships bronze medalist) in 57 kg, defeated RSPB’s Sonia Lather by 4-1.
