When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the 15-member team India squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, Sanju Samson was one of the unfortunate cricketers who didn’t make the cut. During the Asia Cup 2023, the Kerala cricketer traveled with the Indian team as a reserve. Prior to the final, when India defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of 10 wickets, he was sent back home because his services weren’t needed in the competition.
Fans and numerous former cricket players were shocked when Samson was left off of India’s World Cup list. The 28-year-old averages 55.71 in ODI. This may have tipped the scales in his favor, but that didn’t end up being the case.
The birthplace of Sanju Samson, Thiruvananthapuram hosted a warmup match between the Indian team and the Netherlands. Where the ‘Men in Blue’ were working out, there was a huge billboard of the wicketkeeper-batter. The skipper of the Rajasthan Royals posted a photo of the squad exercising with his banner in the background on Instagram with the caption, “With Team India @ God’s own country!!”.

Both the warm-up games of team India were called off owing to the nonstop rain.
