MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, may be banned from participating in the IPL 2023 final. Dhoni, who has previously been fined for a slow over-rate violation, now faces the possibility of missing the final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 28th, 2023.
During the 16th over of the Qualifier 1 match between GT and CSK, an incident occurred where MS Dhoni got into a heated argument with the umpires. This dispute arose when the umpires prevented Matheesha Pathirana from bowling due to his absence from the field for a certain period. As a consequence of the argument, there was a four-minute delay in the match.
Sunil Gavaskar and Simon Doull were not pleased with the extended conversation between Dhoni and the officials. Simon Doull stated,
“That 5-minute argument with the umpires was unnecessary. MS Dhoni stopped the game instead of letting another player bowl,”
As of now, there is no information regarding whether the umpires have lodged a complaint against him. Nevertheless, Dhoni may face fines or even a suspension.
Chennai Super Kings secured a 15-run victory over the reigning champions, Gujarat Titans, at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium. With this win, CSK qualified for an unprecedented 10th final, further extending their record.
