The recently inaugurated leadership of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) appealed to the international governing body, united world wrestling (UWW), on Friday to reconsider the imposed ban. Simultaneously, they declared their intention to organize the senior National Championships in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, starting January 28. WFI President Sanjay Singh, who assumed office just a day prior, emphasized that the prompt revival of competitions is a top priority for the new administration. Following their election on Thursday, the newly appointed officials of the federation swiftly decided to host the U15 and U20 Nationals in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.

On August 23, the World Wrestling Federation (UWW) suspended the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) due to delays in conducting timely elections, attributed to ongoing court cases. In the year 2023, the WFI faced a ban, resulting in the absence of all National Championships, with the exception of U23. Recently, 13 out of the 15 elected members affiliated with the Birj Bhushan Sharan Singh panel convened at a city hotel to discuss the future course of action. Notably, the new secretary general, Prem Chand Lochab, and senior vice-president Devender Singh Kadian, both representing the Anita Sheoran panel, were absent from the meeting. The Anita Sheoran panel secured only two out of the 15 available positions. The inaugural General Body Meeting (GBM) of the newly elected federation is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on either January 11 or 12, 2024.
