India ended their ICC World Cup 2019 group stage on a winning note, thumping Sri Lanka by a resounding 7-wickets. Their reward: the top spot in the points table. As a result, they will now be facing New Zealand on 9th July, at Old Trafford.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were at it once again, putting up a 189-run partnership to single-handedly steer the game in India’s favour. In the process, the two openers also scored tons. While Rahul scored his debut century in the World Cup, it was a record 5th hundred for Rohit Sharma in the 2019 edition and 6th overall – equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the most tons in the cricketing extravaganza. He certainly looks to be in the form of his life.
India again showed clinical nature in their play, both with the bat as well as the ball. Everyone in the team’s bowling attack scalped a wicket. had it not been for Angelo Mathews’ fighting knock of 113, the score could easily could have been below 200.
Here is how the Twitterati reacted on Team India’s epic run to the Semi Finals:
Unbelievable consistency from Rohit Sharma, World Cup 100’s running in him like haemoglobin in our bloods. A good 100 from KL Rahul as well and a well deserved win for Team India. Semi Finals kiske saath lag raha hai ? #IndvSL pic.twitter.com/ehp5VZXWWF

3 consecutive 100s and 5 in a single @cricketworldcup is just phenomenal, Rohit.
Very good to see @klrahul11 go on to convert a good knock into a 100 as well!? Good signs. ?#CWC19 #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/p7e3cduV8B— Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) July 6, 2019
It has been a class display from Rohit Sharma this World Cup, to score 5 centuries in a single edition in just 8 innings is truly special. Feel delighted for KL Rahul as well, has been a pleasure to see him score a 100 today. Brilliant for Indian Cricket #IndvSL pic.twitter.com/6EYdgD4OHi

Manjrekar hell bent on making Indian players confess they are scared of playing England. And they would prefer NewZealand. Typical defeatist 90s mindset. Good everyone slapped.#INDvSL

"No player in the history of the sport has done it (made 5 centuries in one World Cup)".
An Indian batsman did that.?
I've read/heard multiple critics say he's only a good player on home turf. And yet, Rohit Sharma just created history on foreign soil.
