3 out of the 11-member of Indian Wushu team selected to participate in the Asian Games in China were unable to travel to Hangzhou and remained in New Delhi. The athletes, Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega, and Mepung Lamgu from Arunachal Pradesh, were unable to secure their travel credentials, resulting in their inability to join the rest of the team on the flight to Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.

The group was scheduled to transit through Hong Kong on their way to Hangzhou; however, they faced travel clearance issues beyond Hong Kong.

The trio has sought assistance from Kiren Rijiju, a former sports minister and current earth sciences minister, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, in order to swiftly resolve this predicament. The Wushu event at the Asian Games is slated to occur from September 24th to the 28th. As mentioned in News 18, the sources stated,

“Their clearances have not arrived to enter China. We, at the federation, were unable to download their accreditation cards for the Games while the remaining members of the team could download theirs without any issues,”

“The accreditation card acts as your visa so we decided to leave without them, hoping that they could join the team before the competition begins,”
