June 20 holds a special place in the annals of Indian cricket, commemorating the momentous Test debuts of three iconic cricketers – Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli. In 1996, Ganguly and Dravid burst onto the Test scene with a resounding impact, with Ganguly scoring a magnificent century and Dravid displaying his prowess with an impressive 95. On the other hand, Kohli’s introduction in 2011 against West Indies in Kingston was relatively modest, as he scored only 4 and 15, culminating in a forgettable total of 76 runs from three Tests.

Nevertheless, it was MS Dhoni‘s unwavering belief in Kohli that provided the budding talent an opportunity to feature in the four-Test series against Australia later that same year. It was during this pivotal series that Kohli proved his mettle, leaving an indelible impression. He showcased his brilliance with a remarkable 76 in Perth, followed by his maiden Test century in Adelaide. From that juncture onward, there was no turning back. Now, twelve years down the line, Kohli continues to stand tall as one of the game’s most exceptional batsmen, etching his name among the cricketing greats.

On a momentous occasion, Kohli, known for his unwavering passion for Test cricket, expressed his sentiments through his social media platforms with a heartfelt message, “12 years in Test cricket today. Forever grateful”.
