The second Test between India and South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town, is underway with both teams putting in their utmost effort on the field. Despite a strong performance by the Indian bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj, who successfully bowled out South Africa for 55 runs after opting to bowl first, the South African pacers made a comeback, dismissing India for 153 runs. In his final innings in international cricket, Dean Elgar scored 12 runs before falling prey to Mukesh Kumar. Mukesh, jubilant over Elgar’s wicket, received support from Virat Kohli, who ensured that the stand-in South African captain received a memorable farewell in his last Test. Virat Kohli encouraged the crowd to show their appreciation as Elgar walked back to the dugout.

Mukesh Kumar secured two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah claimed one, leaving South Africa at 62 for 3 by the end of Day 1, trailing India by 36 runs. Elgar and Aiden Markram provided a solid start in their second innings, but Mukesh and Bumrah helped India regain control by the close of play. Earlier, Mohammed Siraj’s impressive six-wicket performance (6 for 15) led to South Africa being dismissed for a meager total. Bumrah and Mukesh also contributed with two wickets each in the first innings. Despite the pitch offering significant bounce, the hosts exhibited a poor batting display. In response, India, initially solid at 153 for 4, experienced a sudden collapse, losing their last six wickets for no runs in 11 balls. The side led by Rohit Sharma was bowled out, securing a 98-run lead.
