Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat, borrowing a verse from Urdu poet Abid Adeeb, passionately denounced the individuals who are “spreading fake news or reports” regarding the wrestlers’ protest. She boldly accused them of cowering before a “goon” while expressing her solidarity with Olympic medallist grapplers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia.

Together, they are leading the protest against the outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, whom they have accused of sexual harassment of women. Vinesh tweeted,

“Do those who spread fake news even realize the trauma that women wrestlers are going through? Weak media has legs that start trembling in front of a goon’s hunter, not a female wrestler,”

To conclude her tweet, Vinesh recalled poignant lines by Abid Adeeb.

In a subsequent tweet, Vinesh Phogat expressed her disappointment towards those individuals who had previously belittled the value of wrestlers’ Olympic and world championships medals by comparing them to monetary worth. She pointed out that now these same people were targeting their jobs.

Vinesh, Bajrang, and Sakshi, all three prominent wrestlers, are affiliated with the Indian Railways. Among them, Sakshi holds the position of Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
