Boxer Vikas Krishan Debuts on a Promising Note

Indian boxer Vikas Krishan has made a brilliant professional debut by notching up a Technical Knockout against American Steven Andrade in New York.
The bout only lasted for just two rounds at the Stone Resort Casino in New York on Friday, 18 January 2019.

Vikas Krishnan made his debut in the six-round super welterweight contest. He has been signed up by Top Rank Promotions who have also represented the legendary Bob Arum.

After the match, Vikas tweeted, “Won my pro debut fight by TKO. Thank you all for your love & support.”

Krishnan’s opponent Steven Andrade had come into the game with an experience of 6 fights, in which he had won 3 of them. But the Indian sttod his ground until the final moments to clinch the match. Steven defeat also marked his 4th consecutive loss since November 2017.

The fight was the on par with the Olympic silver-medallist Shakur Stevenson’s IBF Intercontinental and WBC Continental Americas featherweight title contest against Jessie Cris Rosales.

Vikas had prepared for his debut game under the guidance of Stevenson’s grandfather Wali Moses.

The 26-year-old Vikas Krishnan has won the Gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games and 2018 Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast in Australia.

He has won bronze medals at 2014 and 2018 Asian Games held at Incheon and Jakarta respectively. In 2015 Asian Championship held in Bangkok, he bagged the silver medal, followed by a bronze at the 2017 Asian Games held in Tashkent in the Middleweight category.

The Haryana born boxer has received the Best Boxer award at the National level. He has also been conferred the Arjuna Award in 2012.

India’s star boxer, Vijender Singh, has also signed up with Top Rank Promotions. He had an undefeated professional run in England and India. His debut in the United States is being planned for March 2019.

  1. Vijender singh the first n only SILVER medalist… What do you mean by that? He has won bronze medal 2008 Beijing olympics then bronze at world championship 2009 milan. What is the purpose of spreading wrong news?
