India’s boxing legend Vijender Singh expressed his excitement for the bout he will be playing against Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez at the Madison Square Garden (MSG), New York, USA.
Vijender Singh said that it’s great to be associated with top rankers. He also expressed that he wants to take his unbeaten performance in the UK and the USA as well. He said that he will get around three to five fights in a year depending upon his training and fitness.
The boxing champion also expressed that it was his ambition to square off with middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez. Vijender Singh expressed there could be nothing better than getting an opportunity to fight with Canelo at MSG.
Vijender Singh, who became a national hero 10 years ago by winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, penned a new deal with legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum. He turned into a professional in 2015 and is still unbeaten with 10 wins to his name. However, the Indian star failed to get an opportunity to compete this year and has now teamed up with Arum’s Top Rank Promotion.
Having joined Bob Arum, Vijender will have an opportunity to train with well-known coaches including Robert Garcia and Freddie Roach, the long-time handler of Filipino great Manny Pacquiao.
Vijender Singh in an interview told that Bob Arum introduced him to Garcia and Roach. He said they are still trying to figure out who will ultimately train him. Speaking further he said that these coaches all are certainly big names and he said that it will be his honour to be coached by them. Vijender believes that training with big names like Garcia and Roach will lift his career more.
Indian boxer star Vijender said that he is training hard despite not getting a fight this year. His training will take to the next level when he will travel to the US later this month. Vijender’s last fight was against African champion Ernest Amuzu in December 2017.
Vijender Singh’s scheduled fight in July this year against Briton Lee Markham for the Commonwealth super middleweight title was got cancelled after his opponent pulled out due to injury.
Not having an opportunity to compete this year at any international-level game, India’s boxing star is super excited to win the World Title fight against Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez.-- Advertisement --
