Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul were the men behind Karanata’s 4th title win as the two scored 50+ scores.

How Karnataka clinched their 4th title

Batting first, Tamil Nadu started their innings well. Abhinav Mukund scored 85 runs in the first innings and made his name to the 2nd highest scorer, just 9 runs behind Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year.

Baba Aparajith made 66 runs and his partnership with Mukund had put Tamil Nadu in a very good position.

They had reached 224/5 in the 45th over, but with a plot twist coming their way a final over hattrick for Abhimanyu Mithun restricted them to 252 all out.

Opening the batting for Karnataka, Devdutt Padikkal and KL Rahul walked out to chase down the total. Washington Sundar soon picked the wicket of Devdutt, who was the highest scorer of the 2019 Hazare Trophy.

Coming in after Devdutt, Mayank Agarwal and his good friend KL Rahul had to take the innings ahead as the dark clouds had started to creep in. They reached the par score of 64/1 in 10 overs. The two talented batsmen then began to hit Tamil Nadu bowlers to all sides of the park before the game had to be stopped due to bad light condition followed by heavy rainfall.

The game was stalled for nearly 40 minutes, and Karnataka had reached 146 runs with the loss of 1 wicket. A decision to forfeit the game was taken and Karnataka were declared the winners by the VJD method.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal scored unbeaten 55 and 69 runs respectively which was enough for Karnataka to lift the trophy for the 4th time.
