Early Life

Umran Malik - KreedOn

Randhir Singh Manhas, Umran’s coach, took him as a ward when Umran was just 17. Umran had come to the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu where he met Manhas in the Cricket  Coaching Centre.

Mahas has said during the beginning, Umran was very lazy and not very hard working despite having a natural talent and passion for the game.

Manhas, who is also known as ‘Rajan Sir’ by his students, recalled that Umran got selected for the U-19 Jammu & Kashmir Team, but hardly received any chance to play. He also says that Umran developed his speed by bowling with tennis bowls and playing regular tennis ball Cricket.

Umran, who had been a class X Dropout and came from a humble background, never found it easy to play Cricket but his father’s support did help him come ahead.

Ajay Ratra, the current coach of Assam and former Indian cricketer was impressed by Umran when he saw him in the nets during a Ranji Trophy Match.

Things took a very different turn for Umran as former Indian bowler Irfan Pathan took him as his ward.

Pathan believed that while Umran had a great pace, his bowling action needed some work.

In 2019, he wanted to give Umran maximum time for practice, but could not due to the abrogation of Article 370.

Umran Malik made it to the limited-overs team of Jammu and Kashmir in Early 2021. He was a brute force in both the ODI and T20 format and managed to get in IPL 2021 as a Net bowler due to his consistent pace bowling.

After an injury to T Natarajan, Umran received a chance to make his T20 Debut against KKR, where he broke the record for fastest delivery by an Indian fast bowler. He later broke that same record against RCB in his next match.

Umran Malik dismissed KS Bharat in that same match against RCB to get his first wicket in his IPL Career. He took another wicket in his next match against Mumbai Indians

Impressed by his pace and Rawness, the Indian selectors have chosen Umran Malik as a net bowler for the upcoming T20 World Cup, where he might get valuable experience and Exposure bowling quality batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The Indian selectors along with the captain and the coach are keeping a keen eye on the young bowler.

With the necessary amount of Care and Patience, we might see Umran evolve as a regular Indian Pace Bowler. Being around consistent bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar might also help the raw talent discover himself and develop himself into a lethal fast bowling weapon for the Indian Cricket Team.

Umran Malik’s average bowling speed is around 145-150 Kmph. But occasionally, he can bowl as fast as 153 kmph.

Unluckily, for the future star, he didn’t fetch any price as he was used as a net bowler for SRH. But his performance in 2021 has guaranteed that he might go for a big price in the 2022 IPL Mega Auction.
