Neeraj Chopra secured his spot in the Paris Olympics 2024 by leading Group A qualifiers with the best throw of 88.77 meters in World Athletics Championships held in Budapest on Friday. The qualifying mark for the quadrennial event was 85.50 meters. This was Chopra’s first major appearance after his victorious run in the Laussane Diamond League in July.
Rebounding from a month-long period of injury recovery, Chopra’s achievement fell short of his best efforts. Nonetheless, he showcased his dominance in the esteemed single-day competition. The 25-year-old Chopra, who had missed out on three prominent events due to a muscle strain suffered in June, had already secured a win in the Diamond League opener in Doha on May 5 with an exceptional throw of 88.67 meters, marking his fourth career-best performance.
The Indian superstar, who has a personal best of 89.94 meters, had cemented his top spot in the Diamond League standings with 16 points. (Video Credit- Zee News Youtube Channel).
