The Journey

Angmo was born in a remote village in Leh named Saboo. Ladakh was then under the administration of Jammu & Kashmir. Angmo who was passionate about sports since her childhood became frustrated whenever she watched that despite having a lot of potential sports persons in Ladakh, there was the least percentage of scope for them to represent even at the national level. So she, after completing 10th standard, left Jammu & Kashmir. She was a judo player at that time.

Angmo said,

“I went to Delhi. I stopped playing judo and started playing Wushu. Even I represented India in Wushu. I had the desire from that time to do something for Ladakh through sports.”

The Turning Point

In a bid to train abroad, Angmo was in search of sponsorship and fortunately, she got the help of one person named Thery Marcede. But Marcede was not a Wushu man. He had a passion for football and he took Angmo to Marseille, France where the lady joined Tibet Sports Foundation, an organization that organizes football tournaments there. Angmo finally joined a local football club as its manager.

She added,

“I learned a lot about administration. I returned to Ladakh in 2014 and started roaming around the Union Territory, trying to inspire the people who are associated with football as well as the people whom I used to see as crazy for playing the game. Then, after Ladakh was freed from J&K I took the initiative to build up the Ladakh Football Association.”

The Dream

Angmo had a long desire to develop football in Ladakh and to provide the opportunity for the region’s potential and talented footballers. Now she has taken up the mission to start the venture.
