Team India will, afterall, wear an orange coloured jersey in the ICC World Cup 2019. This will happen on June 30 in the game against hosts England, who also sport a blue jersey just like India.-- Advertisement --
India have traditionally worn the blue jersey ever since the 1992 ICC World Cup, thus gaining them the nickname of ‘Men in Blue’. However, for the first time ever, the team will be seen donning orange. It is also expected that there will be splattering of blue on the collar of the said new jersey.
It was strongly speculated that India would be wearing a different colour with the dawn of the home-away jersey format at the cricketing extravaganza ever since the ICC came up with a statement, informing it allowed teams to provide two different coloured kits.-- Advertisement --
“For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has a preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match,” the ICC had said in a release.
Both Times of India and India Today have confirmed that Virat Kohli & Co. will indeed be wearing the orange coloured jerseys against England.
South Africa became the first teams to change their jersey colours from green to yellow in their second World Cup game against Bangladesh who also wore green kits on June 2. In fact, Bangladesh have also unveiled their away kit – a dominant red coloured outfit.
India have so far played three games (against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan ). However, none of the game involved a colour conflict.
Before the match against England, India will also be playing against Afghanistan (June 22) and West Indies (June 27).
Afghanistan likely to wear alternate jersey on Saturday
Although India and Afghanistan both have a blue coloured jerseys, it will be Afghanistan who would be changing their kits on Saturday since the match is treated as a home match for India, according to ICC schedule of World Cup 2019.
However, since England are the host nation, it will be India who will be changing jersey colours on 30th June.
