Asian Games gold medallist pair of Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna were named as the top seed in the men’s doubles event of the Tata Open Maharashtra 2018-19. The ATP 250 tournament, India’s only ATP Tour stop, will be played in Pune from December 31.
Divij Sharan, who briefly became India’s number one doubles player, and veteran Bopanna recently joined forces, keeping in mind the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
India’s Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan had won the gold medal in the men’s doubles tennis event at the 18th Asian Games 2018 in the twin cities of Jakarta and Palembang against Kazakhstan’s men’s doubles pair.
Malek Jaziri and Radu Albot will be the second seed while Tim Puetz and Phillip Oswald are seeded third. The pair of Marcelo Arevalo and Jamie Cerretani is seeded fourth.
Leander Paes also joins the brigade
Experienced star Leander Paes will be teaming up with Mexico’s Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela with whom he won the Santo Domingo Challenger title and ended runner-up at Brest, Monterrey and Chicago in the 2018 season.
Left-handed Jeevan Neduncheziyan has entered the main draw with USA’s Nicholas Monroe, who is ranked 65th in the world.

Tournament director Prashant Sutar said, “It’s a matter of pride for us to have Asian Games gold medallist Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan to confirm their participation and become top seeds at the same time.”
World ranked six Kevin Anderson, World ranked seven and former US Open winner Marin Cilic and Frenchman and defending champion Gilles Simon are among the top names in singles to feature in the second edition of the tournament.
