According to recent reports by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday, the ICC T20 cricket world cup broke viewership records as it reached almost 167 million viewers watching nearly ten thousand hours of live coverage across various digital and TV platforms in 200 countries.
India Vs Pakistan Record Setter
The Super 12 Match between India and Pakistan especially broke all viewership records. The match which had taken place in Dubai was viewed for 15.9 billion minutes in India alone. This broke the viewership record previously held by the 2016 India Vs West Indies Semi-Final match which was held in India.
The match had not been very memorable for Indian fans. India had lost from Pakistan for the first time in World Cup history and by a huge margin of 10 wickets. The match however seems to have been viewed a lot.
The tournament overall had an overall TV consumption of about 112 minutes. This came as a big surprise as India, the country with most cricket viewers, had been out of the group stage itself.
The tournament too had been nothing short of a nightmare for the Indian team as they were out in the group stage itself. It was the most viewed cricket tournament ever in the USA. A country which the ICC has been targeting to gain viewership for quite some time now.
Viewership Increase- Worldwide
There was a significant rise in viewership by percentage in countries like Pakistan, UK and
Australia as well. The social media consumption of the event has also increased since ICC’s partnership with Facebook. ICC’s social media channels have witnessed a rise in engagement.
Compared to the 3.6 billion views in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. There were 4.3 billion views across all channels for the tournament in video views.
One thing which the records ensure is that there is definitely an increase in Cricket viewership around the world. This is very good news for all Cricket fans across the globe.
