Suryakumar Yadav, captain of India&#8217;s T20I side, will return to the T20 Mumbai League as an icon player for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East for the 2025 edition. IPL 2024-winning captain Shreyas Iyer will also be an icon player for SoBo Mumbai Falcons. The third edition will take place from May 26 to June 8, following the IPL 2025 season.
The eight franchises participating have highlighted their icon players from capped Indian cricketers. This is meant to galvanize the star value of the domestic T20 tournament, creating excitement among local fans. The respective teams nominated Ajinkya Rahane, <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/prithvi-shaw-stats">Prithvi Shaw</a>, <a href="https://www.kreedon.com/indian-cricket-player-shivam-dube-stats-life-and-journey">Shivam Dube</a>, Shardul Thakur, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarfaraz_Khan_(cricketer)">Sarfaraz Khan</a>, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tushar_Deshpande">Tushar Deshpande</a> as icon players, in addition to Yadav and Iyer.

It is these international players who enhance the IPL experience, which is expected to boost the level of competition among the players in the league.
However, while the T20 Mumbai League is a platform for local talent, the mere presence of the IPL stars is sure to bring in glamour and eyeballs. Moreover, the timing of the tournament, just after the IPL, would carry the form and following of these big names into the Mumbai League and attract even more fans and media eyes. We expect international exposure and local enthusiasm to make this league edition particularly interesting.
All eyes will be on who joins which franchises from the upcoming May 7 auction, as all the young talents and domestic veterans approach the event. This sets the stage at Wankhede, one day after the IPL ends, for the highly anticipated 2025 T20 Mumbai League.
