In a significant setback for India, key batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been sidelined due to a Grade-II ankle tear. The 33-year-old is expected to be unavailable for approximately seven weeks, with his return anticipated by February 2024. Following a twist to his ankle during fielding in the third T20I against South Africa, Yadav underwent scans that confirmed the extent of his injury. Regrettably, this means he won’t be able to participate in the upcoming three-T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled to commence on January 11. During his recovery period, Yadav will undergo rehabilitation at the NCA, aiming to stage a comeback to the national team after sufficient recuperation.

The responsibility of leading the Indian T20I team was given to the star Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who is currently sidelined due to injury. Presently, both Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are expected to be unavailable, prompting the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to seek an alternative captain for the upcoming match against Afghanistan.
Regarding Team India, they are currently engaged in a series against South Africa in the multi-format competition. The two teams competed in a three-match T20I series, which ended in a draw. However, the Indian team, led by KL Rahul, swiftly recovered and delivered outstanding performances to secure victory in the ODI series. India’s dominance was evident in their wins in the first and third ODIs. Now that the white-ball fixtures are completed, the team is eager to redirect their attention to the upcoming two-match Test series. The initial Test between India and South Africa is scheduled for December 26 at SuperSport Park in Centurion. With their success in the ODI series, India aims to replicate their strong performances in the Test format as well.
