Senior spinner of the Indian cricket team, Ravichandran Ashwin believes Steve Smith has the captaincy skills and it is a match made in heaven. On Wednesday, Ashwin commented after Smith-led Australia beat India by 21 runs in the third and final ODI. Impressed by Smith’s leadership, Ashwin wrote on Twitter, “Steve Smith and captaincy are a match made in heaven.”

Despite the absence of their full-time skipper Pat Cummins, Australia’s ability to make a brilliant comeback and ultimate dominance was on display again in India where they secured the series with a 21-run win in Chennai.

The third Test at Indore saw a change in the entire Aussie approach since Smith became a captain in Cummins’ absence. He was later praised following the brilliant comeback in the third Test. The Aussies hit back again after losing the first ODI and the series was 1–1. Smith’s marvelous tactics and sound decisions regarding bowling and fielding impressed many.

Indian batters suffered pressure from Australia’s spinners as the Aussie clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1. Chasing a difficult target of 270 on a tricky pitch, India was 248 in 49.1. The series’ defeat somehow indicates that Men in Blue is nowhere near ready for the World Cup and there are too many flaws that need to be addressed.
