At the age of 12, Mr J. Krishna Rao, KS Bharat’s coach, discovered his talent and encouraged him to be a wicket-keeper batsman. Srikar Bharat has played at all early cricket levels, from Under-13 to Under-19. He played for Andhra Pradesh at all levels.

KS Bharat Domestic Career

Srikar did not have a very great beginning to his List-A career, managing to score only one run on his debut against Tamil Nadu. He opened for Andhra Pradesh in that match. He started his first-class career by scoring a quick and aggressive 37 in the second innings of his debut match.

Bharat has not proved himself a very great batsman when it comes to domestic T20 and has a very low strike rate. However, he is often kept in his domestic team due to his incredible wicket-keeping skills.

A lot of times the numbers are not able to justify a player’s true talent. This seems to be the case with Srikar Bharat too. While his T20 strike rate and average may be very low, he can play explosive impactful innings in a game. His 62 runs off only 34 balls against Puducherry at Wankhede is a brilliant example of this trait.

Bharat had improved his first-class record by a big margin, after scoring 758 runs in the 2014-15 Ranji Season. He played with an average of 54 that season. Srikar Bharat was named for India’s blue squad in the 2018-19 Duleep trophy.

In January 2021, he was designated as one of five standby players in India’s Test squad for their series against England. Additionally, in May 2021, Bharat joined India’s Test squad for the England series as a replacement for Wriddhiman Saha.

February 2022 marked Bharat’s inclusion in India’s Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka. In May 2022, he was once again named in India’s Test squad, this time for the rescheduled fifth Test against England.

Bharat’s Test debut came on 9 February 2023 against Australia at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. In January 2024, he was chosen for India’s squad for the test series against England. Notably, in the first test, he scored 41 runs in the first innings and 28 runs in the second innings, also making 4 dismissals during the match.

He was selected for the team which was supposed to play Bangladesh in the second test as a substitute for Wriddhiman Saha in 2019 November.

Again, a few months later he was added to the ODI squad for the series against Australia as Rishabh Pant‘s replacement after the latter suffered from a concussion. Bharat was also named as a standby player for a Test series against England in 2021.

During the first test of the New Zealand tour of India, he got to be a substitute wicketkeeper after Wriddhiman Saha‘s injury. He managed to do a fine job taking two catches and taking part in a stumping. Bharat was named in India’s Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka in February 2022. In May 2022, he was again named in India’s Test squad against England.

Keeper-batter KS Bharat made his Test debut for India after earning his first cap on 9th February 2023. Bharat was chosen as the first-choice wicketkeeper in the absence of Rishabh Pant, in the red-ball contest.
