Squash: Indian Men Dominate Singapore, Women Crush Pakistan at Asian Games

The Indian squash team began their Asian Games journey with convincing victories against Singapore and Pakistan in the men’s and women’s team events on Tuesday. The women’s squad, featuring 15-year-old Anahat Singh, veteran Joshna Chinappa, and Tanvi Khanna, secured a flawless 3-0 victory against Pakistan in their opening Pool B match.

In the opening singles, young squash sensation Anahat triumphed over Sadia Gul with scores of 11-6, 11-6, and 11-3, achieving victory in just 16 minutes. Joshna Chinappa, participating in her sixth Asian Games and the first match of this edition, defeated Noor Ul Huda Sadiq in 13 minutes with scores of 11-2, 11-5, and 11-7.

The semi-finalists in the Asian Games squash competition will be determined by the top two teams from both Pool A and Pool B. India, seeded third, finds itself in Pool B alongside Malaysia, Macau, China, Pakistan, and Nepal.

In the men’s competition, the top-seeded Indian team showcased a dominant performance by defeating Singapore 3-0. Harinder Pal Sandhu, returning to singles play after a prolonged injury break, faced a tough challenge in the opening singles match, eventually securing victory with scores of 11-4, 13-11, 8-11, and 7-11 against Jerome Clement.

Indian ace squash player, Saurav Ghosal, competing in his sixth Asian Games just like Joshna, faced a challenging first game against Samuel Kang. However, he emerged victorious with scores of 11-9, 11-1, and 11-4 in a 37-minute match.
