Good Initiative! Sports To Be Part Of School Curriculum In Odisha From Next Academic Year

Embracing Bhubaneswar’s emergence as a prominent sports hub, the Odisha government has taken a significant step by incorporating sports into the school curriculum starting from the next academic year. This decision, endorsed by the State government of Odisha, mandates the inclusion of sports as an essential part of education.

Odisha has gained recognition for hosting numerous national and international tournaments, with the government actively supporting various sports such as hockey, kho-kho, swimming, etc. The state’s transformation into a thriving hockey hub, highlighted by the successful hosting of prestigious events like the Men’s Hockey World Cup, further underscores its commitment to sports development.

The Odisha government, in collaboration with corporate entities, has initiated several High-Performance Centers across the state to foster excellence in various sports disciplines. Notably, Sundargarh, which is popularly known as the nursery of hockey, has witnessed the installation of 17 astro turfs, further strengthening its reputation.

The state government has entered into a partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), enabling approximately 150,000 students from 250 schools to actively participate in Olympic Value Education Programmes.
