Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly commented on the ‘Kohli vs Sachin’ debate and praised Kohli for his 45th ODI century. When asked who is the better player between Sachin Tendulkar vs Virat Kohli, Ganguly said,
“It’s a difficult question to answer. Kohli is a fantastic player. He’s played many such innings, 45 hundreds don’t happen like this. He’s a special talent. There will be periods when he will not score, but he’s a special player.”
Star batsman Virat Kohli has made headlines after smashing his 45th ODI century during India’s first ODI against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on Tuesday. The 34-year-old batsman scored 113 runs off 87 deliveries. With this, Team India registered an astounding 67-run victory over Sri Lanka to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. With this century, Virat also equalized Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most ‘home ODI centuries’.
King Kohli smashed his 45th ODI century and, overall, his 73rd in international cricket. The batsman is now only four centuries away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries.
Kohli’s hundred made way for Team India to beat Sri Lanka by 67 runs in the first ODI and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Meanwhile, captain Rohit Sharma smashed 83 off 67 balls, and Shubman Gill made a 70. Moreover, Umran Malik (3/57) and Mohammed Siraj (2/30) shared five wickets as India restricted Sri Lanka to 306 for 8 in 50 overs.
