India’s opening batswoman Smriti Mandhana scored the fastest fifty for India in Women’s T20Is against New Zealand at Westpac Stadium in Wellington today (6 February 2019).

She took just 24 balls to score her half-century. While achieving this feat, the 22-year-old left-hander broke her own previous record of a fifty in 25 balls, which she made last year against England.

Coming on to bat to chase down the target of 160 set up by the Kiwis, Mandhana went after the bowlers immediately. In the course of her innings, the batswoman struck seven fours and three sixes.

She was finally dismissed for 58 runs in 34 balls when she tried to hit a slow delivery from Amelia Kerr for a six. A brilliant one-handed catch in the deep by Hannah Rowe cut short her innings.

Sophie Devine is again at the third position too for her fifty of 21 balls in the World Cup in the Caribbean land last year. West Indies’ Deandra Dottin holds the fourth place for her fifty of 22 deliveries back in 2009. Another Kiwi, Rachel Priest is placed at the fifth position for her fifty in 22 balls. Mandhana is placed 6th.
