Sivasakthi Narayanan’s dream of getting a national call-up comes true

Indian footballer, Sivasakthi Narayanan is one of the country’s promising football players. He plays for Bengaluru FC and the forward has been extremely successful wearing the club jersey in national-level tournaments. He took part in the club’s all 21 matches in the recently-concluded ISL and struck six goals and on three occasions his defense-splitting passes helped the team to score goals. Sunil Chhetri, the captain of Bengaluru FC and the icon of today’s Indian football has already hailed Sivasakthi as the country’s best promising striker for his impeccable speed down the flanks. Chief national coach Igor Stimach also had praise for this 21-year-old striker as he stated,

“The best achievement from this ISL for me is Sivashakthi.”

Sivasakthi Narayanan: The Beginning

Sivasakthi originally hails from Kandanur in Tamil Nadu. He used to watch seven-a-side games. His seriousness about football came in 2014 when he along with his elder brother Sivasubramanian got admitted to Noble Football Academy which was a part of Raman Vijayan Soccer School.

Footballer Sivasakthi Narayanan, remembering his journey, commented,

“I was always shorter than the rest of the team, so they would always push me to play as a striker. Once I started scoring goals, I knew I wanted to hold on to that position. Back then, the dream was to take part in the seven-a-side tournaments for my town.”

Fondly known as Siva, scored 12 goals in the under-18 Elite League in 2017-18. He increased his tally to 22 goals from just 12 matches, winning the Golden Boot. He was studying at Christ College of Arts and Science.

The mother’s support

Sivasakthi got huge support from his parents when started shining in his younger days. Even after his father died, he got continuous support from his mother Muthulakhshmi. The striker remembered,

“We both the brothers could be present on several occasions whether it was for family gatherings or during festivities. But she has always been supportive throughout this journey. We are blessed to have her.”

Motivation from Chhetri

Cristiano Ronaldo is the favorite international striker of Sivasakthi and in India, he has idolized Sunil Chhetri. Commenting on Sunil the striker sounded quite emotional as he said,

“I am fortunate to have Sunil Chhetri with me on the same team. He always inspires me and guides me with advice during and after the training. I am indebted to him.”

The Dream comes true of Sivasakthi Narayanan

Sivasakthi’s dream was to get a national call-up and his dream came true when he has been called up in the 23-man national side for the Tri-Nation tournament against Myanmar and Kyrgyz Republic, to be held in Manipur.

Siva said,

“My dream came true but I should not be complacent with the call-up. My journey has just started. Like BFC, I want to be regular on the national team. Then only I can be happy. My brother always motivates me by saying that I should think step by step. It is like crossing the traffics on the road one by one and I am looking at my journey with this approach.”
