Shubman Gill, the emerging batting talent from India, has surpassed Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam to secure the top position in the ICC ODI Rankings. Gill now holds the No. 1 spot with 830 rating points, while Babar has dropped to second place with 824 ratings.
Interestingly, Gill has become the second-fastest Indian to achieve the No.1 ODI ranking. The record for the quickest ascent to the top ranking is held by former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who achieved it in just 38 innings. In comparison, Gill took 41 innings to secure the number 1 position in ODIs.
This 24-year-old has had an exceptional performance in the current calendar year. Shubman Gill accumulated a total of 1149 runs in 26 ODIs, boasting an impressive average of 63.00. With six centuries to his name this year, he now shares the prestigious company of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar in the exclusive list of batters with five or more hundreds in a single year.
On a different note, Mohammed Siraj has surged to the top of the ODI bowling rankings once again. His impressive performance, marked by figures of 3/16 against Sri Lanka, played a pivotal role in securing the coveted No. 1 ranking for the pacer.
