Shreyas Iyer Records Highest-ever T20 Score for an Indian Batsman

Shreyas Iyer, who is constantly knocking at the doors of the Indian cricket team, has once again put up a strong case for himself.

Iyer, playing for Mumbai at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has smashed the highest T20 score by an Indian batsman against Sikkim in Indore on Thursday.

The 24 year old Shreyas Iyer broke Rishabh Pant’s record 128* which he had scored for the Delhi Daredevils against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018.

Going past him, Iyer smashed 147 off 55 balls which included 7 fours and 15 sixes.

The Mumbai team, batting first, scored a gigantic total of 258/4 in their 20 overs.

The openers Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw couldn’t get going. Rahane made 11 while Shaw made 10. Then it was all the Iyer show.

Along with Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav too showed his class. He hit a 33 ball 63 which included 8 fours and 2 sixes. For Sikkim, Milind Kumar took 2 wickets while Bipul Sharma and Ishwar Chaudhary took a wicket each.

The Mumbai bowlers were spot on. Shams Mulani bowled 3 overs, bowling 2 maiden overs, giving away only 2 runs and taking 2 wickets.

Shardul Thakur also was fabulous. He also took 2 wickets, giving away only 13 runs in his 4 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni, Tushar Deshpande and Shubham Ranjane claimed a wicket each.

The Sikkim team could only muster 104/7 in their 20 overs. It was only Bipul Sharma – 32 (20) and Ashish Thapa – 19* (36) who made some noteworthy scores. Mumbai won the match by a record 154 runs.

Three Shreyas Iyer Records Created on Thursday

Shreyas Iyer’s monstorous 147* shattered many records on its way. The first one was of course the highest ever T20 score by an Indian player- held by Pant who scored 128 runs.

Moreover, the 24-year-old batter also smashed 15 sixes en route to the cracking ton. Coincidentally, the record of hitting most number of sixes by an Indian in T20 format is also held by Pant. The latter had earlier hit 12 sixes when he played for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in 2018.

Last but not the least, Iyer, along with Suryakumar Yadav, stitched a massive 213-run partnership to take Mumbai from 22-2 to 235-3.

The record stand was the highest ever in the Indian cricket history and third highest in the world in the third-wicket position in a T20 game.

This is not the first time that Iyer has played a hard-hitting knock. Here is a quick throwback of his fastfire knock against KKR in IPL.
