In what may be one of the IPL classics, Mumbai Indians clinched a dramatic victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Super Over. Kieron Pollard hit the winning runs as MI became the third team to qualify for the playoffs after CSK and DC. However, the defeat threw SRH’s chances of a top four finish into quandary. Although they are still placed at the fourth position with 12 points, they may slip to the fifth with KKR and KXIP (who both have 10 points apiece) taking on each other on Friday.

The visiting team did reasonably well to bowl Mumbai Indian out for a competitive total of 162/5 with Quinton de Kock (69*) scoring the majority of the runs. Khaleel Ahmed again scalped three wickets while Rashid Khan was economical with the ball, but wicket-less. However, as expected, the Warner-less Sunrisers suffered in the second innings with the bat. Although they passed the power play with flying colours, SRH soon witnessed Jasprit Bumrah and Krunal Pandya swiftly running through their top and middle order.
Having reduced the visiting team for 105/5, MI were certainly on the course of victory but for the excellence of one man – Manish Pandey, who scored a brilliant knock of 71*. May be Mumbai Indians became a bit complacent towards the end, but they let the in-form batsman have his say in the last over and failed to defend 16 runs. As a result, the game went to Super Over.

Bumrah then took the second wicket on the fourth ball to set the target at a measly 9 runs. Hardik Pandya closed the contest before it could even become interesting by scoring a six on the first ball in the following over.
Soon, Twitter was flooded with Tweets congratulating MI for qualifying to the Playoffs under such dramatic conditions. Here is how fans reacted:

Hard luck #OrangeArmy @SunRisers, Bumrah on his day is good for anyone.
One single error in judgement for that second run and we lost it.
Let's get RCB in Bengaluru with this confidence. Gayle vs Russell tomorrow.
Battle if the ruffled teams.#MIvSRH— Arvind Ramachander (@arvindia4u) May 2, 2019
