India’s top squash player Saurav Ghosal defeated second seed Zahed Salem of Egypt in the finals to win the Kolkata International invitational squash meet on Sunday.
Locked in 2-2, Saurav showed his outright classy performance in the decisive game by 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-5, in an 86-minute neck-to-neck contest against Zahed Salem.
Ghosal looked very comfortable in the first game, but World No. 27 Salem got back by bagging the second round of the game. It became a bit nervy for Ghosal in the end, but throwing away two championship points in the fourth game, took away the match, thus retaining his Kolkata International title.
Saurav Ghosal in a criticizing statement towards the standards of refereeing, “It was quite a nervy affair. There were some questionable calls. For that, I got a bit rattled.”
Adding to it, Ghosal said, “The entire ecosystem has to change. We need to educate everyone as the youngsters are watching these games.” Sourav will be competing in a tournament in Hong Kong in the coming week.

Ghosal had cruised into the finals of the event by out crashing fourth-seeded Todd Harrity of the USA in the semifinals of the Kolkata International tournament. That was just a one-sided affair match as Harrity didn’t get hold of the game right from the beginning and Ghosal took the game away, way too easily.
The top-seed and highest-ranked Indian squash player, Saurav Ghosal blanked out fifth-seed El Hammamy by 3-0, thus moving into the semifinals.
Earlier, Ghosal had defeated World No. 1 Marwan El Shorbagy here in a similar World Tour event in 2015, thus taking up against Salem by storm.
The ace squash player finally showed his best playgame after the Vedanta Indian Squash Open in Mumbai in February.
Saurav is having a busy schedule ahead as will be heading for another event in Egypt in December. But the squash champion will not be participating in the National Championship that is to play next month.
Saurav Ghosal is currently at his career-high by being at a position of World No.11.
Congratulations Saurav on your achievement.
