Indian badminton men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (Satwik -Chirag), have achieved their career-best ranking by climbing three spots to reach world rank 3, as per the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday. The duo created history by becoming the first-ever Indian badminton players to secure a Super 1000 event victory, emerging as the champions of the Indonesia Open 2023 on Sunday.
Their impressive win against world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia in straight games not only earned them the Indonesia Open title but also propelled them into the top three ranking in the world. Satwik and Chirag have had a phenomenal 2023 season, securing two world tour titles at the Swiss Open and the Indonesia Open, in addition to a gold medal at the Badminton Asia Championships.
In the men’s singles category, Kidambi Srikanth made a significant leap of three spots to break into the top 20, achieving a world rank of 19. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen climbed two places to reach world rank 18. India’s top-ranked men’s singles shuttler, HS Prannoy, maintained his position at world rank 9 after an impressive performance at the Indonesia Open.
Among the women’s singles players, PV Sindhu made notable progress by advancing two places to reach world number 12. Despite limited participation in tournaments, Saina Nehwal moved up one spot to become world number 31. In the mixed doubles category, Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy retained their position as India’s best pair with a world ranking of 33. However, Tanisha Crasto and Ishan Bhatnagar slipped to world number 38.
