Renowned cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is preparing for a fresh endeavor as he is on the brink of being designated as a ‘National Icon’ by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Tendulkar is poised to collaborate with the country’s electoral authority in order to promote consciousness and provide education to the populace about the significance of voting.
ECI, in an announcement on their official website, stated,
“Cricket legend and Bharat Ratna awardee Shri Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar would begin a new innings – as the ‘National Icon’ for voter awareness and education for the Election Commission of India.”
Tendulkar is scheduled to enter into a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission of India (ECI). This agreement will be formalized during an upcoming event at the Rang Bhavan, Akashvani, located in the capital city. The event is scheduled for Wednesday.
The presence of Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Mr. Anup Chandra Pandey and Mr. Arun Goel, is anticipated at the event. The Election Commission of India aims to utilize Sachin Tendulkar’s widespread appeal among the youth of India to enhance “youth engagement in the upcoming elections, with a particular focus on the General Elections of 2024.”
Tendulkar is commonly acknowledged as one of the most exceptional batsmen in the history of cricket. He concluded his international cricket career as the all-time leading run scorer and holds the unique record of achieving 100 centuries.
