The empowering story of Dhing Express
The girl with an innocent face and courage like a lion. Dhing Express, Hima Das is an exceptionally talented person, belonging to a proletarian family in Assam. She was born on 9 January 2000 in Dhing district of Nagaon, Assam. Hima is the eldest among her five siblings and she had a responsibility to look after them as well as her family. She made many sacrifices throughout her childhood to outshine others. She was passionate and had a strong urge to accomplish in her life.
The Making of a champion: Hima Das
Her journey began in 2016 when she became the limelight of her village by winning her first competitive race at the Inter-district meet in Sivasagar, Assam. She was not destined for a football career but she definitely became the youngest sprinter of all times. Her life drastically changed within the next 5 years as soon as she created history being the first Indian athlete to win her first track gold medal in the 400-meter final at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland. In 2018, she clocked 51.32 seconds in the 400m final at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast. Hima bagged a gold, clocking 50.79 seconds at the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In 2019, she won five gold medals repetitively within a short span of five days and became a milestone in Indian history. She was also honored with the Arjuna award at the age of 18 years. At present, she is one of the youngest and most dexterous track and field athletes. On 26 February 20121, she was inducted as DSP in Assam Police.
She is an idol and inspiration for the country. Despite the hardships and indigent circumstances, she excelled in her life and she did not let her past affect her bright future. The girl who began her journey barefoot is now being sponsored by Adidas who are making shoes with her name. She made it through the obstacles her life bestowed upon her and today she is a legend.
