Mehuli Ghosh and Rudrankksh Patil joined forces effectively to secure a gold medal in the mixed air rifle event, defeating China 16-10 at the Asian Shooting Championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Tuesday. Despite the Chinese duo, Shen Yufan and Zhu Mingshuai, leading the qualification with 632.3 points, just one point ahead of India, the partnership of World Champion Rudrankksh and World Championship medalist Mehuli Ghosh proved successful in clinching the gold medal match.
Isha Taksale and Umamahesh Maddineni, the Indian junior air rifle shooters, clinched gold medals, contributing to India’s overall gold count, which began with four gold medals on the first day. Additionally, the second Indian team, comprised of Anvii Rathod and Abhinav Shaw, secured a bronze by defeating one of the Indonesian teams. The remaining Indonesian pair automatically received a bronze as there were only five teams in the competition. However, the Indian mixed air pistol team, consisting of Rhythm Sangwan and Arjun Singh Cheema, faced a 17-11 defeat against Vietnam. The primary objective for these teams is to secure Olympic quota places for the upcoming Paris Games. India has already earned two quotas through Varun Tomar and Esha Singh in air pistol events on the opening day. While India has secured all eight possible Olympic quotas in rifle events, the focus now shifts to obtaining quotas in rapid-fire and sports pistols.
