Following Hardik Pandya‘s return to the Mumbai Indians before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, where he took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, the latter’s supporters have expressed their discontent. Recently, fans of Rohit Sharma successfully advocated for the removal of Hardik Pandya’s Poster from Mukesh Patel college in Mumbai. The renowned all-rounder was acquired through a trade with the Gujarat Titans by the five-time champions before the IPL 2024 auction, subsequently being appointed as the new captain, displacing Rohit Sharma. This decision has elicited strong emotions from Rohit’s fanbase, given his instrumental role in securing five titles for Mumbai and his leadership across all three formats for the Indian team.

Recently, Hardik received an invitation to attend an event at Mukesh Patel College in Mumbai. The college administration, in its preparations for the event, displayed a prominent poster featuring Hardik as the captain of the Mumbai Indians. However, students who ardently support Rohit Sharma expressed their dissatisfaction with Hardik’s presence and successfully persuaded the management to take down his poster. This incident adds to a series of protests led by Rohit’s devoted fans, who have not only voiced their discontent regarding Mumbai’s decision to replace Rohit as captain on social media but have also taken to the streets in the past. During these protests, they carried placards with slogans advocating for Rohit’s reinstatement as the captain of the Mumbai-based franchise.

Hardik is set to return to Mumbai following his captaincy stint with the Gujarat Titans over the past few seasons. During his tenure, the Titans secured victory in the debut season’s final in 2022 but ended up as runners-up in the following year. Additionally, the 30-year-old assumed leadership of the Indian team in T20 cricket in the absence of Rohit.
