Hangzhou Asian Games 2023: Indian Rowing Team

The Rowing Federation of India (RFI) has revealed a formidable 33-member Indian rowing team set to represent India at the highly anticipated Hangzhou Asian Games, 2023. The upcoming Asian Games 2023 rowing competition is set to take place in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, from September 23 to October 8. Each of the men’s and women’s squads will have two additional substitutes as reserves.

After conducting rigorous selection trials in Pune, the Rowing Federation of India carefully chose this talented squad, which consists of 20 men and 13 women. The selection of the Indian rowing squad for the Asian Games 2023 followed a series of rigorous trials organized by the RFI at the Army Rowing Node in Pune and Hyderabad from June 21 to July 2.

Among the notable participants, Olympians Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh are set to compete in the men’s lightweight double scull event in Hangzhou. Additionally, Jaswinder Singh, who secured a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Rowing Championships, will take part in the men’s coxless four and coxed eight events. Bheem Singh, a member of the Indian team at the 2023 World Rowing Cup held in May, will also participate in these events.

Reflecting on historical performances, India’s most outstanding performance in rowing at the Asian Games occurred during the 2010 edition in Guangzhou, China, where Indian rowers achieved an impressive haul of one gold medal, three silvers, and one bronze. Furthermore, at the 2018 Jakarta Games, Indian rowers attained three medals – including one gold and two bronze medals.
