Despite their impressive performances in limited-overs cricket for the national team, both Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan faced repercussions from the BCCI as they were removed from their central contracts. This decision was prompted by their failure to comply with the board’s directive to participate in Ranji Trophy matches. In response to this, former India coach Ravi Shastri conveyed a positive message to Kishan and Iyer, urging them to confront challenges, delve deeper into their abilities, and make a strong comeback in international cricket. Shastri emphasized that comebacks are emblematic of the game’s spirit and expressed confidence in their eventual return to the international arena.

It is noteworthy that Kishan, citing mental fatigue, opted out of Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy campaign, choosing instead to practice with Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya in preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Meanwhile, Iyer, who was excluded from the Indian team following the second Test against England, initially claimed to be unavailable for Mumbai’s Ranji quarter-final against Baroda due to injury. However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) doctors clarified that he was fit to play. Subsequently, the 29-year-old cricketer made himself available for the Ranji semifinals scheduled to commence on March 2nd.

In the meantime, Shastri praised the BCCI’s decision to implement ‘fast bowling’ contracts, underscoring the significance of Test Cricket and Domestic Cricket. He commended the board for establishing a positive direction for the sport’s future. Noteworthy, the fast-bowling contract has been awarded to Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa.
