Ranji Trophy, Round 9: Kerala Beats Himachal Pradesh, Goes into Quarterfinals

Kerala defeated Himachal Pradesh by five wickets in the match played at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, Nadon, and entered the Ranji Trophy 2018 quarter-finals.

Chasing the target of 297 runs, Kerala won the match with 23 overs more to bowl on the last day due to an excellent half-century of captain Sachin Baby, Vinod Manoharan and Sanju Samson.

Sachin (92) and Sanju (61 not out) added 88 runs for the fifth wicket to ensure victory for Kerala.

With a 26-point lead, Kerala barred Baroda from entering the Quarterfinals in the Ranji trophy for the second year.

Kerala had lost to former champion Vidarbha in the quarter-final last year. The Kerala team joined the knockout phase along with Vidarbha, Karnataka, Saurashtra and Gujarat.

Here are the eight teams for the quarterfinals: (From Elite Groups A and B) Vidarbha, Saurashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Gujarat; (from Elite Group C) Team Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh; (from Plate Group) Team Uttarakhand.

Quarterfinal matches will begin from January 15.
