Ranji Trophy: Mumbai Vs Baroda Match Drawn, Dube Shines with 5 Sixes in an Over

Round 6 of Ranji Trophy 2018-19 was played from December 14 to December 17. The match was drawn between Mumbai and Baroda that was played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Mumbai first innings

Mumbai scored 465 runs in the first innings. Siddhesh Lad and Shreyas Iyer scored brilliant 130 and 178 respectively for Mumbai. Shubham Ranjane and Shivam Dube contributed with 42 and 37 respectively. Hardik Pandya took 5 wickets for 81 and Bhargav Bhatt took 4 wickets.

Baroda first innings

In reply to Mumbai’s 465 Baroda scored 436. For Baroda, Aditya Waghmode scored 114 and Vishnu Solanki scored 133 runs. Hardik Pandya also contributed with vital 73 runs. Another half century from Baroda was made by Shivalik Sharma. Royston Dias took 4 wickets and Shubham Ranjane took 3 wickets.

Mumbai managed to get 29 runs lead at the end of first innings.

Mumbai second innings

Mumbai’s start was not good in second innings. They lost few wickets quite earlier. Shubham Ranjane’s 64 & Eknath Kerkar’s 56 stabilised the second innings for Mumbai. Shivam Dube made firing 76 runs in just 60 balls, after which Mumbai declared its second innings at 307/7 and both teams decided to call it a draw.

The most important highlight of the match was Shivam Dube’s 5 successive sixes in one over. Although he has shown decent performances this season, he came to the limelight on Monday when he smashed 5 sixes in an over against Baroda.

Shivam was just one shot away from entering the record books of smashing six sixes in an over. The last time a Mumbai batsman managed to accomplish this feat of slamming six sixes in an over was in 1985 by Ravi Shastri.

Another important highlight of the match was Hardik Pandya’s all-round performance with combined 7 wickets in both innings and handful 73 runs in first innings. He has surely grabbed the attention of All-India Selection Committee to be part of the national squad for third and fourth test series against Australia.

Next round of Ranji Trophy will be from December 22 to December 25 where Mumbai will play against Saurashtra at Wankhede Stadium.
