Former Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has claimed that India has a potential of winning 100 Olympic medals by 2032 with the number of steps undertaken by the government for sports’ promotion and its infrastructure in the last 5 years. He was speaking in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
While participating in a debate on Demands for Grants of the Ministry of Youth and Affairs, Rathore said that the renewed Khelo India campaign launched under the premiership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought in a stunning change in the sports arena.
Rathore, who was a Youth and Sports Minister from 2014-19, informed that the Khelo India campaign initiated during the Modi government has also been successful in changing the attitude of the entire country towards sports.
Furthermore, he thanked the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for proposing to set up a National Sports Education Board during her budgetary announcements, while further adding that the step will only help to further widen the scope of the Khelo India campaign.
Furthermore, he said that the government has envisions to set up a sports school in every district.

Rathore, who is an Olympic medal winner, said that with the setting up of the National Sports Development Fund, there will be no dearth of money for sports now.
He concluded that with these steps, it would be very much possible that winning 100 medals in 2032 Olympic Games can be a reality and that there is a pool of talent available across the country.
Participating in the debate, BSP’s Danish Ali asked the government to take measures to clean up the various sports associations of the country.
Congress’ Hibi Eden further said that the government should abstain from changing the name of Nehru Yuva Kendra, which has been playing a crucial role for the sports.
He further added that the government’s move to remove the name of Nehru would be very much be unholy on the part of the ruling party, keeping in mind the significant contribution the first Prime Minister made towards shaping India.
