Ashwin claimed the position of third-highest wicket-taker in the test for India as he got rid of Tom Latham on the 5th day of Ind Vs NZ 1st Test at Kanpur.

“Feels like nothing at all” these are the words of veteran off-spinner as he landed yet another milestone in his name. Only Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev now stand ahead of him as he looks to target another accolade.

Ashwin reflected on his achievement as he said – “Absolutely nothing at all. These are milestones that are constantly kept on the tab, it’s wonderful. Ever since Rahul Bhai has taken over, he’s kept saying how many wickets you take, how many runs you make in 10 years, you won’t remember them.”

India has been considered to make a pitch that is friendly for spinners. Some may question the way Ashwin picked up his wickets. The Kanpur pitch lacked bounce and the roughs even made it uncertain if the ball will bounce or remain low. Ashwin remained diplomatic while answering in this aspect – “Anytime the pitches are being spoken about and I am asked a question, it turns into a controversy. So, I’ll try and keep a tab on that.”

Both teams fought hard throughout the course of five days to sneak out a victory. The spectators were spellbound as both teams displayed the strength of their character and determination. The final day was full of surprises. New Zealand with the nerves of their steal managed to pull out of a draw with a single wicket in their hand. The bad light was a constant hindrance as the game proceeded towards its climax each day. New Zealand’s fortune may have been favoured by bad light but even the fortune favours the brave.
